What Actually Breaks During a Regional Outage
When a single Supabase region goes down, the blast radius hits everything hosted there. That's the key thing many teams underestimate. It's not just the database. It's the full stack of services tied to that project:
- Database connections via connection pooling (PgBouncer) and direct connections both fail
- Auth flows stop working, locking users out of sign-in, sign-up, and token refresh

Build Resilience Before You Need It

2. Consider Multi-Region Architecture
For production apps where downtime has real business consequences, running Supabase projects in multiple regions gives you failover options. This adds complexity, particularly around data replication and consistency, but for critical workloads it's the only way to survive a full region going offline.
3. Monitor Outside Your Provider
Don't rely solely on Supabase's status page. Use external uptime monitoring (Checkly, Better Uptime, or similar) that hits your actual endpoints from multiple geographic locations. You'll often detect issues before the status page updates.
4. Have a Degraded-Mode Strategy
